Members,

We have a DPLSA member who needs your assistance and I am asking for your help.

Detective Danielle Harrison has been recently diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Some of you may know the story in which she had just recently found out that she was a match for her brother, who was in need of a kidney and she went to the process to find out if she was a match. In deed she was and she agreed to be a donor. However, during the preliminary stages of preparation and testing for this transplant, it was discovered that she had Breast Cancer and unfortunately she would not be able to continue the process because of her health. Further, the type of cancer that she has is very rare and only 10% of all people in the United States have been diagnosed with it. Her doctor further informed her that most women don’t find it and when they do, it’s too late (terminal). Danielle informed us that she will have to have surgery (double mastectomy) and chemotherapy for at least five (5) months. This is the best case scenario, but even through this, Danielle’s faith and spirits are still up.

Even with the month of October being Breast Cancer Awareness month and the statistics stating there are over 1,000,000 women in our country with undetected breast cancer, this was staggering and frightening news to hear coming from one of our own. When we first found out, we felt helpless, sad, frustrated and mad all at the same time, not knowing how to respond or how to help. So as I was talking to Danielle this morning, she reminded me that we have an awesome DPD family. She is right, this is a battle that we can absolutely help with and we can be committed more than ever to help our sister by donating much needed Compensatory to be utilized to carry her through this relentless disease that has changed so many lives.

I am asking that each of you, if able consider donating at least 8 hours Compensatory Time to Danielle. I am asking for your support. I am attaching a copy the Donation of Compensatory Time Form which must be sent to your Timekeeper.
Thank you.
