Thomas Berry Scholarship Award

 Retired Lieutenant Thomas Berry and his family, are announcing their 2015 “College scholarship Award” which will be awarded to dependants of active and retired members of the Detroit Police Department. Two (2) dependants will be chosen and awarded $500 during their freshman year of college. The recipients must be a high school senior. This is the 8th year that the Berry family will be providing the college scholarship fund.  The 2014 winners were Calvin Woodside and Rachael Alli, whose family members work for the Seventh Precinct and Crime Analysis, Respectively.

 Qualifications:

 

1. Applicant must be a dependant of an active/retired Detroit Police Officer.

2. Applicant must be a current high school senior with a minimum grade point average of 1.9.

3. Applicant must be accepted to a community college or accredited university.

4. Applicant must submit a written essay, consisting of at least 1,500 words (5,000 words maximum). Essay should not include the name of the Detroit Police family member; only the relationship status should be mentioned. Essays should be emailed to Detcrime@aol.com by May 01, 2015.
