OPEN ENROLLMENT FOR HOSPITALIZATION, VISION, DENTAL AND LIFE INSURANCE PROGRAMS FOR ALL ACTIVE DEPARTMENT MEMBERS
Active members of the Detroit Police Department can change their health insurance providers during the Open Enrollment Period scheduled to run from November 1, 2013, to November 20, 2013. Members may also add dependents eligible for coverage and create Flexible Spending Accounts. Changes in coverage will take effect on January 1, 2014.
Changes must be made at www.mydetroitbenefits.com or by calling 855-224-6200, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 AM to 9:00 PM (EST) and Saturday and Sunday, 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM (EST). All supporting documentation must be submitted by November 20, 2013.
Go To: WWW.MyDetroitBenefits.com
You must complete an online enrollment. If you do not submit an online enrollment, you will automatically default to Single Medical Only coverage, i.e. your dependents will have no health coverage at all, and you will lose dental and optical coverage.
OPT- OUT PROGRAM
City employees who are covered under a medical care plan of an employer other than the City of Detroit may choose not to enroll in the City’s health care program and instead receive a cash amount from the City. If the employee and his/her spouse are both employed by the City, no Opt/Out is available. City employees must elect Opt/Out participation annually to continue receiving any eligible payments.
The Opt/Out Program provides you with a cash payment of $900 annually, received in quarterly payments. Employees who Opt/Out of the City’s health care plan may continue to participate in the City’s dental and vision plans.
FLEXIBLE SAVINGS ACCOUNT
A Flexible Savings Account program has been instituted. This program allows employees to set aside money from their paycheck before the Federal and State governments take their respective shares (between 30/35%), to pay for medical, day care, and commuter expenses. Details of the plan are available in the 2014 Open Enrollment Booklet.
Should you have any questions, please contact Police Personnel at 596-2540.
