National Crime Victims Rights Week Kick-Off{0}
NATIONAL CRIME VICTIMS’ RIGHTS WEEK KICK-OFF
Every year, through a grant funded program, the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs and the Office of Victims’ Crime encourages all leaders, agencies and organizations to acknowledge National Crime Victims’ Rights Week (NCVRW), which commences on April 19 through April 25, 2015. The purpose of National Crime Victim’s Rights Week is to spotlight our nation’s response to victims of crime and to bring awareness to the impact that crime has on the victim’s families.
The Detroit Police Department along with numerous community leaders and organizations has partnered to enhance existing resources and services offered to past victims of violence crime. These important resources assist victims through the healing process after their victimization. This effort is recognized nationally during this week by “Engaging Communities and Empowering Victims” organization.
On Sunday, April 19, 2015 at 4:00 p.m., there was a press conference followed by a balloon release in memory of all victims of crime. This event was held at the Northwest Activities Center located at 18100 Meyers, Detroit MI 48235.
Chief James E. Craig addressed the media regarding victims of crime and the commitment of the department to enhance services to the community. During this week, there will be various activities to bring awareness to victimization.
On Saturday, April 25, 2015 from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., the Detroit Police Department will host a “Crime Victims’ Rights” fair. The fair will include an array of vendors, organizations and agencies that will provide information and services to the community in an effort to enhance their quality of life. There will also be information and services on hand that will assist with educating our community on crime prevention and awareness. The fair will include free prizes, food, and various activities for children.
