Below is a recap of the Michigan Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Monument (MLEOM) Ceremony, The ceremony will be held this Saturday, July 27, 2019, under a tent in the Visitor Lot on Allegan Street, next to the Memorial Park. The address is 900 W. Allegan St, Lansing, MI 48915.
The Michigan Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Monument Fund Commission (MLEOM) invites family members of fallen officers, members of the law enforcement community, and the public to a monument dedication ceremony on Saturday, July 27, 2019, at 3 p.m. This service will start at 3 p.m. and will last until about 5 p.m.
The Michigan Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Monument, coined “The Sentinels”, will be revealed near the Veterans Memorial Park, at the corner of Allegan Street and Butler Boulevard in downtown Lansing.
The dedication ceremony will feature a presentation by MLEOM Commission members, remarks from guest speakers, and a reading of the names of the 588 fallen officers whose names are inscribed on the Sentinels. The ceremony will end with a procession to the Memorial grounds.
PARKING
Parking for the memorial service is available in the Allegan Lot. The Visitor Lot behind the Library of Michigan (702 W. Kalamazoo Street, Lansing) can also be used. There is on-street parking on Butler Street and other nearby streets. Parts of the Pine and Cass Lots may also be available. Police Motorcycle Clubs will use the Visitor Lot on Allegan Street.
ADA-Compliant Parking is available in the Allegan Lot along the east side. Individuals needing assistance may also be dropped off at the Visitor Lot entrance.
RESTROOMS
One barrier-free portable toilet and two other portable toilets will be available in the Visitor Lot. Additional bathrooms are located inside the Michigan Library (including ADA-compliant) across the street from the Memorial site.
UNIFORMS FOR OFFICERS
The Uniform of the Day will be worn. Short-sleeves are acceptable.
SENTINEL ACCESS
The Commission knows that you are eager to see your officer’s name on the Memorial panels. Please note, however, that there will be no access to the panels until the procession at the end of the Memorial Service.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Please note that the Library of Michigan, across Allegan Street from the Memorial site, will be open until 7 p.m. If you need to get out of the sun and heat, you can go there. Restrooms are also available in the Library.
Bottled water will be available on-site.
